Ogbono Soup Recipe

  • 1 cup of ground Ogbono seeds
  • 1/4 cup of roasted crayfish (ground)
  • Assorted meats (goat, beef, or chicken)
  • 1/2 cup of palm oil
  • 2 cups of vegetable stock or water
  • 2 handfuls of spinach or bitter leaves (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of ground chili pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Seasoning cubes (optional)
  • 1. Heat the palm oil in a pot until melted. Add the ground Ogbono seeds and stir until fully dissolved.

  • Gradually add the stock while stirring to prevent lumps.

  • Add the assorted meats, crayfish, chili pepper, and seasoning cubes. Let it simmer for 15–20 minutes.

  • Stir in the spinach or bitter leaves if desired and simmer for another 5 minutes.

  • Serve with pounded yam, fufu, or rice.
